I crop a DEM to an area, export the gmp, re-open the gmp. Then how to proceed to export the cropped DEM without recalculation?

You could just use File->Export->Export Elevation to export the cropped DEM to a new file.

hi Mike, the DEM I have is in bil format. When I try to export as you suggested, I get a warning box saying that this option is available only with loaded elevation data. It seems that bil format is not regarded as elevation data by GM. Is there any means available to handle this file format?

I figured out that I can use export -> raster -> bil to export the cropped bil. Then I have another question, can I convert the bil back to usable elevation grid data format so that I can handle and modify the elevation data?

So long as you choose the 16-bit or 32-bit elevation option when exporting your BIL it should load right back into Global Mapper as elevation data.

    Thanks,
