Hi GM team,
I have some elevation data which follows a coast line, it is only about 1km wide but about 1000km long and travels SW/NE diagonal. The cell size is 5meters. I need to export it to an ascii file.... If i export it to one file the ascii file is huge, 100,000+ rows and columns!!! and basically 99% null.

I have tried to use the gridding feature, tile width 2km and height 2km, but it seem this still exports the entire extent of all tiles even if they only contain null values. Can someone help me only export the tiles with some elevation data.

cheers
Nick

    Nick,

I would suggest using a sparse format, like XYZ Grid, that way you should only get XYZ tuples where there is valid data.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

    Hi Mike,

I need ascii files as they are an input to another processes. I have a script now which deletes all the ascii files that only contain null values. I hoped that there would be a way to avoid creating them in the first place.

    cheers
